COVID-19: How to tell if a cough or runny nose is a cold or Omicron
Two years after the outbreak of COVID-19, the Omicron virus continues to spread. The United States reported a record number of more than 1 million new cases on Monday. Cases are also growing in countries such as Britain, France and India.
Whether it's the new strain of omicron or not, the NHS says there are some classic signs of COVID-19 that people should look out for:
A new, persistent cough
Have a fever
Loss or alteration of sense of smell or taste
But other researchers say that some novel coronavirus infections will only feel symptoms like a bad cold, namely a headache, sore throat and runny nose.
The UK's Zoe Coronavirus Symptoms study mobile app asked hundreds of thousands of infected people to report their symptoms, and researchers carefully recorded the symptoms of both Those infected with Delta and Omicron.
So far, the five most common symptoms they found were:
A runny nose
Have a headache
Fatigue (mild or severe fatigue)
sneezing
A sore throat
